Welcome to Cook Uno!
Hi, I’m Vanessa King – Welcome to My Kitchen!
I’m so glad you’re here! My name is Vanessa King, and I’m the creator, recipe developer, and passionate foodie behind Cook Uno. If there’s one thing I truly believe, it’s that sharing food is sharing happiness. Every recipe on this site is crafted with the goal of bringing warmth, ease, and a little bit of fun to your everyday meals. Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or just learning to scramble your first eggs, I want Cook Uno to feel like home—a place where you can always find something delicious, approachable, and inspiring.
Over the years, my work has been featured in “Best Home Cooks Weekly,” I was a top finalist in the Midwest Home Chef Challenge (2023), and my recipes have been showcased on community food networks and partnered with brands like FarmFresh and SpiceArtisans. I’ve collaborated with kitchenware companies, taught local cooking classes, and even hosted pop-up dinners. Every opportunity to share my love of food with others has taught me that the best dishes are those made with heart—and enjoyed together.
Looking back on my culinary journey, I’ve learned that good food isn’t just about flavor—it’s about connection. Recipes aren’t just instructions; they’re invitations. They bring us together, spark memories, and turn the simplest meal into a moment to savor. That’s what Cook Uno is all about: celebrating the everyday magic that happens when we cook, eat, and laugh together.

How It All Started
My love for cooking began in my grandmother’s sunny kitchen, where Sunday mornings meant stacks of fluffy pancakes and laughter echoing through the house. I remember being six years old, standing on tiptoe to stir cake batter, marveling at how a handful of ingredients could turn into something so comforting. Those early moments became the heart of my passion.
As I grew up, food became my way of expressing creativity and caring for others. From hosting potlucks with friends in my tiny college apartment to recreating family classics for holiday gatherings, cooking became my language of love. I found myself searching for new techniques, tweaking flavors, and scribbling notes on every recipe card.
Eventually, I realized I wanted to share my discoveries and help others feel the same joy and confidence in the kitchen. That’s why I started Cook Uno: to create a warm, welcoming space where anyone could find a recipe that feels just right for them, and maybe even discover a new favorite along the way.
Why You Can Trust Me
With over 12 years of experience in home and professional kitchens, I bring a blend of hands-on know-how and culinary curiosity to every recipe on Cook Uno. I’ve cooked for my own family, catered for local events, studied food science, and even completed a course in International Cuisines at the Culinary Institute of Chicago. My background spans personal experimentation, professional development, and ongoing training—because there’s always something new to learn in the world of food!
Quality is my promise. Every recipe is tested multiple times, not just for taste, but for clarity, reliability, and real-life results. My process always starts with research—exploring global flavors, reading up on ingredient science, and testing methods. I aim for step-by-step guidance, helpful tips, and approachable instructions, because I know how frustrating it can be when a recipe doesn’t turn out quite right.
The visual experience matters, too. All the photography you see on Cook Uno is styled and shot by me, with a focus on showing real, inviting food you’ll actually want to make (and eat!). I believe that great pictures help tell the story, inspire creativity, and build confidence in the kitchen.
When I’m not developing recipes, you’ll probably find me exploring farmer’s markets, reading the latest cookbooks, or hiking local trails with my rescue pup, Pepper. Travel and curiosity fuel my kitchen experiments—whether I’m learning the secrets of street tacos in Mexico City or mastering the art of homemade bread at home.
I’m always learning, always tasting, and always eager to bring the best of what I discover back to you. My hope is that Cook Uno inspires you to cook boldly, try something new, and gather the people you love around the table.
